Dr. Diamond is board certified in gastroenterology, with a special focus on Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease and IBS. She also sees patients for abdominal pain, reflux, unusual changes in bowel habits and difficulty swallowing.

Ilysa Diamond, DO

Dr. Diamond grew up in Oak Park and attended Oak Park River Forest High School. She received her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois Urbana. She then moved to Maryland and attended graduate school where she received her Master’s degree from the University of Maryland and NIH. However, she realized bench research wasn’t as enjoyable as working with patients. She decided to apply to medical school and was accepted by Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.

She is very proud of her osteopathic (DO) training, as she learned to treat the body as a whole and think a bit outside the box, even use diet and natural remedies as adjunct treatments when appropriate. However, she did attend an allopathic (MD) internal medicine residency at Allegheny General in Pittsburgh and a gastroenterology fellowship at Brooklyn Hospital in NY, where she learned traditional medicine. She combines both of these training experiences into a unique treatment plan specifically designed for the individual patient she is treating at the time.

She specializes in IBD (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) as she also attended a subspecialty fellowship at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.

She has a unique understanding of the body and specifically the GI tract that allows her to explain what is happening, how to fix it, and why she is choosing this particular treatment pathway. Patients often say, “Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me.” She treats her patients as if they were her own family.
